I have been attempting to get this up and running for several days.
Finally, you can listen to the 1st Letter to Wormwood, from his dear old Uncle Screwtape.
I hope that you consider the point that Lewis makes in this “essay” on the carnal proclivities of humanity. I have found this temptation to be extremely difficult to combat, even while meditating in worship.
I love that screwtape stuff. probly my biggest temptation is just pride. I like making people think as screwtape talks about. I like pushing them out of their comfort zones. Ultimately my motivations are right… to wake them up to the spiritual which is often cloaked in the carnal. The vice that can be wrapped up in this is the belief that “I” can talk someone out of their position and give them understanding. Perhaps I think this because I somehow think that the way I understand things came to me thru reading other men’s thoughts on life. Perhaps that is true…perhaps God was working thru that person or a passage in a book- even the Bible… but ultimately its God that grants understanding thu the movement of His Spirit. It is a real challenge to find ways to address current events in a way that points towards God instead of more human logic. Maybe the best way is to make your point, encourage them to consider things from the Godly perspective (the trouble here is that there are so many takes on what that might be) and then give a scriptural reference and move on leaving folks with their rationalizations so as to avoid debate which never seems to work out. The only time debate ever seems to work is when you have a dialog going where the matter will be worked all the way out to the consensus or conclusion.
