Well…

It sure feels good to get some of the stuff in the last two posts off of my chest. Now perhaps I can move on to more upbeat, warm and fuzzy matters.

"This is serious business but it was not dangerous business"

This story will give S. Starr a little chuckle.
Notice the reporter’s name, she could be kin, Scott.
I note that you’ve been posting your genealogy, was she in there?

From Barbara Starr
CNN

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Six nuclear warheads on cruise missiles were mistakenly carried on a flight from North Dakota to Louisiana last week, prompting a major investigation, military officials have confirmed.

A B-52 is seen on the ground at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, in this file photo.
(not really, this is a scale model B52 that crashed, as you can tell there was no spread of radio active debris, no one was glowing.)

The plane took the cruise missiles from Minot Air Force Base to Barksdale Air Force Base for decommissioning Thursday, the Air Force said.

“This is a major gaffe, and it’s going to cause some heads to roll down the line,” said Don Shepperd, a retired Air Force major general and military analyst for CNN.

The warheads should have been removed from the missiles before they were attached to the B-52 bomber, according to military officials.

The crew was unaware that the plane was carrying nuclear weapons, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the extraordinary sensitivity and security surrounding the case.

The mistake was discovered after the plane’s flight to Louisiana.

Minot Air Force Base is in north central North Dakota and Barksdale Air Force Base is in northwest Louisiana near the Texas border.

Lt. Col. Ed Thomas said that while the military does not publicly discuss nuclear weapons procedures, in this case the Air Force decided to acknowledge the incident in order to reassure the public.

“The public was never in any danger,” Thomas said.

But officials also said the incident was a major breach of security rules surrounding nuclear weapons. One Air Force official said that he could not recall anything similar happening.

The Air Force announced that all flights of fighters and bombers in the United States will be halted on September 14 to allow for a review of procedures.

Because the incident involved nuclear weapons, it was serious enough that President Bush was notified, according to military officials. Once the mistake was discovered, the Air Force immediately began an inventory of all of its nuclear weapons, a military official said.

Maj. Gen. Douglas Raaberg, director of Air and Space Operations at the Air Combat Command in Langley, Virginia, has been ordered to investigate how the nuclear-tipped missiles were flown across the country without anyone knowing, officials said.

One officer already has been relieved of duty, and several others “decertified” from handling nuclear weapons, officials said.

A military official told CNN there was no nuclear risk to public safety because the weapons were not armed. Officials believe that if the plane had crashed or the missiles somehow had fallen off the wings, the warheads would have remained inert and there would have been no nuclear detonation, though conventional explosive material in the warhead could have detonated.

Military officials also say the missiles could not have been launched because of multiple security procedures required to be enacted before any launch would have been authorized.

Shepperd said the U.S. had agreed in a Cold War-era treaty not to fly nuclear weapons. “It appears that what happened was this treaty agreement was violated,” he said.

He agreed with military officials that the situation could not have caused a nuclear detonation, but added, “Any time you have nuclear material on board, if the airplane crashes, nuclear material can be spread in the immediate area of the crash, so you get radioactivity in the immediate area of the crash.”

This is serious business but it was not dangerous business,” Shepperd said.

The story was first reported by the Army Times, a privately published newspaper.

Do you like the revisions?

Contemplative Humans (Temporal Mankind)
Scott has asked me to make some revisions to the look of Geotheology.
I value the Greek’s contributions to thought and reason, so I thought this look might apply to our “Geo” aims here in Geotheology.

Also, I have reduced the number of posts on the main page. It should load into your PC or Mac browser much more quickly. Also, because it will not consume your computer’s memory so voraciously, the computer should be more stable while viewing the main page.

I am not set on any changes. The changes reflect my desires and preferences, which are not what Geotheology viewers may be expecting, so let me know if you would like to go back, and I can reverse the changes. However, the ultimate vote will be Scott, who has given this forum it’s life.

What do you think?

God bless,
DSM

Hello World!

Contemplative Snowman (Temporal Man)

This is my initial post to this forum and I will very briefly explain what I have understood my function to be in this venue.

But first, I should say thank you to my best friend from way back.

I am humbled by the offer to contribute here.

Thank you Scott for entrusting me with the care of; what is, or has become your “baby”, and therein lies a part my purpose here.

I am to help maintain focus on the One who is our reason for being.

It becomes difficult to remain objective about bringing glory to Christ, when one is serving his passion for life.

I have recently found my life passions exercised from me by the Father.

Therefore, I am facing my pride and loss here with Scott and hopefully I will be able to help Scott with his goal to shine for the Master.

I don’t want to go over the top, but the addictive nature of pride pushes humans, carnal spirits or “Ghosts in the Machine”, to serve self, even while we serve the Creator.

That’s okay, insofar as we never attempt to step down from the cross, which we are told to bear daily.

When servants of the Master become servants of the carnal self, thankfully our Lord has made provisions for us to be painfully humbled.

Scott has seen fit to humble himself before God and man. He has done this by the simple act of opening his blog to my spirit and words, which BTW is imbued with the Divine in an indwelling of Christ’s and the Father’s Holy Spirit.

If you want to know who I am you may look at my profile, but you would probably do better by asking Scott. He knows me best and he won’t pull punches, as you can clearly read in his past posts.

I prefer the compliments of a true friend’s criticism, to the flatulent accolades of dishonest salesman.

I too will introduce you to Scott, as I write about our (i.e. mutual disciples of the Christ) purpose and our goal.

He has sought to remove his personal mirror from the profile, and I respect his need to do this, yet, I know him and you should know him too, through a close friend’s eyes.

God bless,

DSM

Our attitude is our own judge!

It has occurred to me, that in the universe that God has placed us, people have ultimate control of only one thing; our own attitude.

This is called “free will”.
Furthermore, it is our attitude that will be our judge, when we meet the Creator.

I often times attempt to transfer my own personal “law” or rules for salvation onto other men and women, but God has not granted this authority to me.
My self-imposed “law” or list of things ‘to do’ or ‘not to do’ will not be binding on anyone other than myself.

It is interesting to consider that all Christian churches, congregations, denominations, and even individual people have lists of rules for salvation. Some of those lists are formal written rules and laws, but many are just ingrained dogma that we have picked up from whomever has happened to have taught us along the road of life.

We seem to presume that the Creator of the universe will be obliged to judge all of mankind, on that final day, based upon our very own personal credo.

If only we could stop for a moment and consider how audacious this presumption truly is, we might be just a little more forgiving of our fellow human.

So at this point, possibly our question could be:

  • What are the limits of God’s power to give life to a lifeless body?

God bless,

DSM

p.s. I believe the answer is in the preceding post.
